"Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. " JR Tolkein

It has nothing to do with hatch. I suppose I deserve to live as much as the next person but what that quote is saying is that nobody has the credentials to make that decision.

I think that if being banned from an internet discussion group is analogous with death in somebodies mind then that somebody is taking the discussion group way too seriously, and that is probably a big part of the reason he was banned. But do I personally think he deserved it? No, not really. I think he should lay low for awhile now though.

Hey no worries. It's not like my blog is being flooded with comments or anything! I know what you mean about the real life thing. In real life the group always finds somebody to pick on. In this case it was hatches turn unfortunately. Anyway the guys at forumosa are mostly alright I think. I learn stuff there everyday. Don't know what you mean about Maoman. He sees himself as a bit of a father figure I think but he is a decent, fair guy as far as I know.

Nope. Broonale only flew off the handle once and he is poster that most people enjoy.

But hatch was banned for his own benefit and it was in fact a favor to him. He is getting along with people much better now. Broonale's suspension was different. He was acting really badly for a while and he got a wake up call on it. As time goes on I see more and more sense in the moderator's decisions.

I liked dave's girl and most everybody else did too I think but the truth is that I don't know everything the moderators knew about that situation. I dunno. And of course she is free to come back anytime under a new name, as is hatch or anyone else who gets banned, so I am not so sure that any of this is such a big deal. When I first came the old timers gave me a hard time too but I persevered and now they just ignore me!

Actually it was just a wild guess.
You know the people who get banned seem to be the most interesting ones. Then they get bored or excited or whatever and start picking fights. Too bad.

I hate Chinese characters for linguistic reasons but love a good many Taiwanese people for emotional reasons. Is that so hard to understand? Read all of my posts before responding again or I will just delete this whole conversation.

You haven't read all my posts. If you had you would have discovered that 1) I was one of the few people to really stand up for Taiwanese culture on this site. 2) I study and use spoken Mandarin everyday. 3)I am 46 years old. 4) I have tried to learn the written characters and found them completely illogical and uneccesarily difficult. The feeling I got was that studying them would actually slow down my progress with the spoken language and since I actually don't have a lot of time left in this lifetime for language learning I would leave them for later. Chinese characters are like an artificial barrier to me. I hate them and that is what I tell anybody who asks.

Taiwanese is a bit different. Sometimes I love the way it sounds almost like an African language or something. Other times it really does "sound like" a bunch of grunts. Anyway I would study it if I had more time probably.

Finally I understand the way you feel about people constantly criticizing Taiwan at that website. They have all kinds of excuses for it that you have heard before so I won't bother you with that. It might be interesting to you to learn though that there are Chinese language websites in the States and Canada that are just as critical as those two countries. At least that is what I heard.
